Cracked Pots, Inc. is deeply committed to reducing waste and shrinking landfills. Our mission is to educate and encourage our community to creatively look at trash. Promoting reuse is at the heart of all we do. By donating to our organization, you support programs including:
ReClaim It! – A retail store at 1 North Killingsworth in Portland, OR, where we sell materials rescued from the dump. We take materials headed for the waste stream and inspire people to reuse, repair, and reimagine them. Our volunteers glean items from the Metro Transfer Station, the last stop before the landfill. To date, we have rescued over 400,000 pounds of materials that would otherwise have gone to the landfill.
Reuse Art Shows – For 20 years, Cracked Pots has been promoting artists who use recycled materials by sponsoring shows for artists and craftspeople whose works employ at least 80% recycled materials. This year was our 19th Reuse Art Show at McMenamins Edgefield with 90+ artists participating.
GLEAN Artists Program - Cracked Pots partners with Recology, a resource recovery and recycling company, and Metro, our regional government responsible for garbage and recycling, to sponsor GLEAN, a juried art program. Each year, five artists are selected to receive $2,000 stipends. For five months, they glean materials from the Metro Transfer Station to make art. The program culminates with an exhibition of their work at a local gallery.
Donation to Cracked Pots, Inc. qualifies the donor to make a matching gift to the Oregon Cultural Trust and to become eligible for a tax credit.
